It is very common to meet people who know the meaning of the word ambition, associating it with something bad or with a negative connotation. Our culture and society have taught us since we were little to not be ambitious, that we should not pretend to want more than necessary, focusing on the fact of being "humble" constantly. The problem within this small definition and concept, which most people have ever integrated into our lives, is that ambition can be confused with greed. As what Edmund Burke said, “Take care of your ambition. It can fly but also crawl.

We would like to be able to make it clear that the concept and meaning of ambition is not the blind desire to obtain ends such as wealth or power, regardless of the means to achieve them.

It is very common to think that an ambitious person will go over others to achieve their goals, but this is not real. In fact, on many occasions, the wishes, goals, and dreams of these people will be oriented to the benefit of other human beings.

We could say that it is rather the desire we have as human beings to seek protection, security, and well-being. Ambition allows us, in this regard, to amplify these security objectives and achieve them on a larger scale for our lives. It is good to stop confusing ambition with defects that we humans have.

Even in Buddhism, where humility is preached, they postulate in favor of a healthy ambition to be better people every day. In addition, they also claim that humility is not related to lack of wealth. The problem is in our relationship with that wealth.

If ambition makes us step on others to succeed, then the problems begin. In this case, we would be talking about insane and malicious ambition. But if our ambition is for the benefit of others, we can be happy to be on the right path. May ambition lead us to overcome ourselves day by day, favoring ourselves and others.
